My broadband isn't working - can I solve the problem myself?

Maybe! Here are a few quick tricks to try to get back online even faster:

  • Switch the router on and off at the wall for two minutes.

  • Check everything is plugged in securely at the wall, and in the back of your router

    • No loose cables

    • Everything is plugged in at the wall

  • Check there's nothing covering the router
    Anything covering or in front of the router could be blocking the signal and slowing your service way down.

    • Cupboard doors

    • Big bits of furniture

    • Appliances

    • Chairs, etc.

  • Check how many devices are connected to the router

    • Every phone, tablet, laptop and smart device connected to your WiFi takes a chunk of the signal, which can slow your internet down dramatically!
    • Try disconnecting anything you're not using.
  • Check your supplier's website to see if there are any faults in your area

  • Are there any lights on the router?

    • A quick google search might tell you what the specific issue is when those lights display.
  • Is your router in a central location? 

    • If you live in a big place, there could be blind spots for your WiFi signal that could be fixed by moving your router to a more central space.
