What is a Supplier of Last Resort? (SoLR)

A Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) is an energy supplier that steps in to take on customers when another energy supplier goes out of business.

If an energy supplier goes out of business, Ofgem, the independent energy regulator steps in to make sure customers of the failed supplier aren’t left without a steady power supply.

They assess energy companies to make sure they can take on new customers without huge costs to the customer, and without making their existing service worse.
